Ninja Blender Lawsuit: Burns From Ninja Cooker (2026)

Ninja Foodi Burn Lawsuit | Burns From Ninja Cooker (2026)

Legally Reviewed by Matthew Dolman

This article has been reviewed for legal accuracy by Matthew Dolman, managing partner of Dolman Law Group. Matthew is a nationally recognized trial attorney with more than 22 years of experience representing plaintiffs in complex litigation and has helped recover over $700 million in settlements and verdicts for injured clients.

Matthew and the attorneys at Dolman Law Group have extensive experience handling defective product and product liability claims, including cases involving dangerous drugs, medical devices, and consumer products. These cases often focus on whether a product was defectively designed, improperly manufactured, or sold without adequate warnings about known risks.

In these lawsuits, the issue is not just that someone was injured. The question is whether a company knew, or should have known, about the danger and failed to take reasonable steps to protect consumers. Dolman Law Group focuses on holding manufacturers accountable when unsafe products cause serious harm.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a major recall on May 1, 2025, involving approximately 1.8 million Ninja Foodi multi-cooker pressure cookers due to a serious burn injury hazard that has already caused 2nd and 3rd-degree burns on an untold number of people.

The Ninja brand, known for its wide range of kitchen appliances, also includes the popular Ninja Professional Blenders, which have been the subject of safety concerns and product recalls. In particular, Ninja Professional Blenders have faced scrutiny over potential risks associated with their blade assemblies and locking mechanisms.

SharkNinja Operating LLC, the parent company behind Ninja products, has faced multiple lawsuits, including Ninja blender lawsuits and blender lawsuits, due to alleged safety issues and injuries linked to their products. SharkNinja Operating has been named in product liability lawsuits arising from injuries caused by design flaws, such as defective blade locking mechanisms.

In addition to the recent pressure cooker recall, in November 2015, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled over 1 million Ninja blenders due to defects in the blade locking mechanism, which posed a significant laceration risk to users. The CPSC has previously recalled over a million units of Ninja Foodi blenders because of laceration risks associated with the blade assembly, further highlighting ongoing safety concerns and legal challenges for SharkNinjaOperating LLC.

The recall affects the "Ninja Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Cookers," a popular countertop appliance that functions as both a pressure cooker and an air fryer. These devices are made by the SharkNinja corporation and marketed under the name Ninja with “TenderCrisp” technology.

These 1.8 million pressure cookers were sold nationwide from January 2019 through March 2025 at most major retailers like Walmart, Costco, Sam's Club, Target, Amazon, and on Ninja's website.

In total, approximately 1,846,400 units (plus 184,240 in Canada) are included in this recall by SharkNinja. The manufacturer of this multi-cooker also makes many other popular items like Shark vacuums and the Ninja line of kitchen appliances, like blenders and air fryers.

What Ninja Foodi Multi-Cookers Are Being Recalled?

All Ninja Foodi Multi-Function Pressure Cookers and Air Fryers in the OP300 Series are being recalled. This includes all of the following models. The model number can be found on the back of the cooker, usually on a white label near the power cord.

  • OP300
  • OP300C
  • OP301
  • OP301A
  • OP301C

Why is the Ninja Pressure Cooker Defective?

The major hazard that prompted this Ninja Foodi recall is the defective pressure-cooking lid. According to CPSC, the pressure cooker lid can be opened while the cooker is in pressure cooking mode. At this stage of cooking, the appliance and the food within are still pressurized and very hot. When the lid is removed or blown off, hot food and liquids can erupt from the appliance. The recall was initiated to protect consumers from dangerous defects and unreasonably dangerous conditions that could result in severe injuries.

When the machine (or the lid) is functioning properly, the lid of a pressure cooker should remain locked until all the pressure is safely released. However, with the Ninja Foodi models in the recall, consumers have been able to open the lid during cooking and have received serious burn injuries. The failure of the advertised safety features meant the appliance did not operate safely, allowing the defect to cause harm despite claims of advanced protection.

One may think that it’s obvious not to open a pressure cooker while it’s in use. However, the lid is supposed to be designed so that it can only be opened when it is not under pressure. Therefore, if a user wants to check something in the pot and the lid can open, in theory, they should be able to assume the pot is not yet hot or has already cooled down since the lid can be opened.

SharkNinja and the CPSC warn that this defect poses a high risk of severe burns since scalding liquids will instantly burst out when the lid comes off under pressure. A majority of Ninja Foodi lawsuits relate to severe burns or serious lacerations.

As a remedy, SharkNinja is offering a free, functional replacement lid to all owners of the recalled units by filling out this Recall Request form. The recall included models OP300, OP301, OP302, and OP350CO, which were sold in the U.S. between January 2019 and March 2025, typically priced around $200.

Anyone who owns this unit should immediately stop using the pressure-cooking function on all affected Ninja Foodi devices until they get their new lid, as it is critical to operate safely and avoid unreasonably dangerous situations such as pressure cooker explosions.

Safety experts recommend pouring only through the locked lid's spout or removing the blades entirely before pouring to reduce the risk of serious laceration injuries or the potential for it to cause deep burns.

Reported Injuries and Ongoing Lawsuits from Defective Ninja Cooker

Prior to this recall, there have been numerous incidents of the Ninja Foodi pressure cooker malfunctioning.

SharkNinja received at least 106 reports of burn injuries from these pressure cookers, and over 50 of those incidents involved second- or third-degree burns to users’ faces, arms, or bodies. Many of these injuries required immediate medical attention, with some innocent consumers needing multiple surgeries or treatment for other serious injuries, such as internal trauma. These cases highlight the severe impact on victims and the importance of holding the manufacturer accountable for the harm caused.

These types of burns are very serious injuries, demonstrating just how dangerous this product’s defect can be. Victims have described receiving severe burns when scalding hot soups, stews, and other contents erupted from the cooker when they removed the lid.

These users claim they thought it was safe to remove the lid because the manual makes clear that the lid will not open unless it is safe to do so. But sadly, like so many other consumer goods in 2025, these cookers may have been rushed to market and barely tested.

To date, 26 defective product lawsuits and claims of negligence have already been filed against SharkNinja by injured consumers. Many victims have experienced significant financial stress due to medical bills and lost income, and lawsuits seek financial compensation for these damages.

These claims are known as product liability lawsuits, and they seek compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering, and other damages resulting from the burns. Filing a lawsuit typically involves documenting the incident, gathering evidence such as medical records and product details, and must be initiated within the statute of limitations, which varies by state.

The fact that dozens of legal claims were filed over the course of years before this recall highlights the severity of the issue. It also shows the company knew of the lid problems earlier and raises questions about whether the Ninja Foodi OP300 series will be discontinued going forward.

SharkNinja has publicly stated that customer safety is a “top priority” and that it initiated the recall to address the problem and prevent further harm. But let’s be real, profits are their top priority, which is probably why it took them years to let the public know that this device might send you to the hospital with second or third-degree burns on your face.

Severity of Second- and Third-Degree Burns

The injuries caused by the defective Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker have been severe, including second-degree and third-degree burns. In some cases, victims have needed to undergo surgical repair, similar to those who have suffered severe lacerations from defective Ninja blenders, where the blades fell out during operation and required immediate medical attention, stitches, or surgical repair.

It’s important to understand just how serious these burns are and the medical care they require.

Second-Degree Burn Quick Facts

Second-degree burns damage both the outer layer of skin (epidermis) and the underlying layer (dermis). They typically cause blistering, intense pain, redness, and swelling.

A second-degree scald on the face or hands, for example, can be extremely painful and carries a risk of infection and scarring.

Treatment for second-degree burns often involves immediate cooling of the area, application of antibiotic creams, sterile dressings, and careful wound care. Smaller second-degree burns may heal at home with proper care over 1-3 weeks, but larger or deeper ones often require professional medical treatment to promote healing and prevent complications. Doctors may prescribe Rx-grade burn creams (such as silver sulfadiazine) and will monitor for signs of infection.

If the burn covers a large area or a critical area (like the face), specialized burn care or even skin grafts might be needed to ensure proper healing and reduce scarring.

Third-Degree Burn Quick Facts

Third-degree burns are even more serious. A third-degree burn destroys all layers of the skin, including the epidermis and dermis, and can even extend deeper and damage underlying fat, muscle, or even bone.

Paradoxically, a third-degree burn might not be as immediately painful as a second-degree burn, because it can literally destroy the nerve endings in the skin. However, these burns are definitely classified as medical emergencies, and they typically require prompt, specialized treatment at a hospital or burn center. Treatment for third-degree burns usually involves surgical debridement (removal of dead tissue) to prevent infection, skin graft surgeries to replace damaged skin, IV fluids for hydration, and strong pain management.

Recovery from a third-degree burn is a long process and often results in permanent scarring. In the context of the Ninja Foodi incidents, victims with third-degree burns likely required hospitalization, skin grafting procedures, and could face lasting scars or physical therapy needs.

Both second and third-degree burns can also lead to complications like infections, scarring, and emotional trauma. This is why the Ninja pressure cooker’s defect is so dangerous; it can and has inflicted life-altering injuries on consumers in an instant.

Benefits of Hiring Our Product Liability Lawyers

When you’ve been injured by a defective product like the Ninja Foodi pressure cooker, hiring a knowledgeable product liability lawyer will make all the difference. Product liability cases can be complex. Let one of our lawyers handle all the legal work and deal with the corporate legal teams and insurance companies, while you focus on healing.

Defective product cases involve technical investigations into how and why the product failed, proof that the defect directly caused your injury, and the amount of damages that injury has amounted to. Our experienced attorneys can handle these challenges for you.

It's important to understand the difference between a class action lawsuit and an individual product liability claim. While a class action groups many victims together, it is generally unsuitable for personal injury cases like burn injuries from pressure cookers because damages and injuries are highly individualized. In fact, class action claims alleging deceptive marketing against Ninja were dismissed in July 2025, but individual design defect claims are still proceeding.

Hiring a product liability lawyer means you have a knowledgeable legal team to evaluate your case, gather crucial evidence, and build a strong lawsuit against the manufacturer. Our lawyers know how to negotiate with companies like SharkNinja or their insurers to get you a fair settlement instead of the pennies on the dollar they usually offer people without an attorney.

Our product injury attorneys work on a contingency fee basis, so you pay nothing up front, and we only get paid if we get you compensation.

This compensation can help to cover your medical expenses, lost wages from time off work, compensation for pain and suffering, and even punitive damages if they're warranted.Contact Lawsuit Legal News today to discuss your Ninja pressure cooker injury or any other defective device or product liability claim. Common Questions about Product Liability Claims

What is a product liability lawsuit?

It's a legal claim filed by someone who was injured by a defective or unsafe product, seeking compensation from the manufacturer or seller for the harm caused.

What is the process of a product liability lawsuit?

It starts with a lawyer reviewing your case, then filing a claim. The process includes documenting any injuries, such as laceration injuries, and gathering evidence about the product's malfunction. The case moves through evidence gathering (discovery), possible settlement talks, and trial if needed.

What kind of compensation can I get for injuries caused by a defective product?

You may be entitled to financial compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and in some cases, punitive damages if the company acted recklessly. This includes compensation for severe lacerations and deep burns resulting from defective products.

How much money can I get for my defective product lawsuit?

Payouts vary by case. Severe injuries like third-degree burns can result in large settlements or awards, sometimes six or seven figures, depending on the impact and evidence.

How long does a product liability lawsuit take?

A product liability lawsuit can take several months to a few years, depending on the complexity of the case, the severity of the injuries, and whether the case settles early or goes to trial.

Why were the Ninja Foodi Multi-cookers recalled?

The Ninja Foodi Multi-cookers were recalled because their pressure-cooking lid can be opened while the cooker is still pressurized, allowing hot contents to escape and posing a burn risk. The recall was issued due to dangerous defects and unreasonably dangerous conditions in the product, as the failure of the advertised safety features contributed significantly to the risk of injury.

As of the recall announcement, there were 106 reported burn injuries, including over 50 cases of second- or third-degree burns to the face or body.

Have lawsuits been filed against SharkNinja regarding this defect?

Yes, at least 26 lawsuits have been filed against SharkNinja by consumers injured by the defective lids. Multiple lawsuits have sought to hold the manufacturer accountable, specifically naming SharkNinja Operating LLC, for alleged safety failures and injuries caused by Ninja Blender products.
